Doris Elliott Obituary

East Providence – Doris M. (Turbitt) Elliott, 89, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Waterview Villa Nursing Home of natural causes. Born in Attleboro, Ma. on August 23, 1930, she spent most of her life in Providence, Cranston, Pawtucket and East Providence, R.I. She was the daughter of the late Alice Lincoln Turbitt and late John W. Turbitt

Doris worked as a Jewelry inspector for various companies in the Providence area including Danecraft and Armburst Chain. She retired from the jewelry industry at age 65 after 20 years in the field. She enjoyed spending time with family, shopping, crocheting blankets, loved going to the ocean to watch the waves and eating clam cakes and chowder along the shores of Rocky Point and Oakland Beach.

As the third oldest sister of 10 children, she spent a lot of time babysitting her littler sisters and brothers for her mom and always made herself available to babysit her grandchildren. Her life was dedicated to helping family where she could and at the same time raising her 5 sons as a single working mom.

Doris is survived by her three sons: James D. Elliott, Thomas M. Elliott and Timothy A. Elliott, two daughters in law: Ann F. Elliott and Christine F. Elliott along with her nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her two other sons Milton A. Elliott and John W. Elliott. Besides her five sons, she is survived by one brother Leo and two sisters Brenda, and Lillian. She is predeceased by her two other brothers Francis and Peter and four sisters: Kay, Betty, Bertha and Nancy.

A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday November 3rd at J.H. Williams & Co. Funeral Home 210 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, RI. Calling hours will be 5pm – 7pm. All relatives and friends are invited who want to be a part of Doris’s Memorial Service. A private burial service on Monday morning November 4th will be held at the St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, R.I.
