Jean King Obituary

Jean S. King, 93, of Rumford, died peacefully on July 28, 2019 at Orchard View Manor. She was the wife of the late David W. King. Born in Lincoln, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Sidney Sherman & Esther (Foster) Sherman.

Mrs. King was a 1948 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Jean honed her floral design skills at her parents’ business Rockledge Greenhouses in Lincoln. She later worked as a floral designer with Clarke Flower Shop in Providence until she retired.

She leaves her loving children: David S. King & his wife Deborah Chick, Elizabeth J. Sine, & Steven L. King & his wife Jane E. Rogers-King. Cherished grandmother of Nigel L. King, Gregory M. Sine, Meridith A. Weiss, Graham S. King, & great-grandmother of Malachi Weiss. She was the sister of Edwin C. Sherman, Franklin F. Sherman and the late Roger S. Sherman.

Her funeral service will be held Friday, August 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Historic Chapel of Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or the RISD Museum, 20 N Main St, Providence, RI 02903 will be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.H. WILLIAMS & CO. FUNERAL HOME, 210 Taunton Avenue, East Providence.
