Salvatore L. Scarpitti, 92, of Riverside, died peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the loving husband of Rita L. (Fisher) for 71 years. Born in Akron, OH, he was a son of the late Nicola Scarpitti & Nicolina (Madrone) Scarpitti.
Mr. Scarpitti worked as a purchasing agent for Rotondo Precast for many years until his retirement. A member of “the greatest generation”, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching tennis, going to Twin River Casino, and loved the outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he leaves loving daughter, Janice M. Scarpitti-Pires & her husband Scott of Riverside. Cherished grandfather of Erin C. Dunne of Whitinsville, MA, Colleen J. O’Brien & her husband Michael of Warwick, & great-grandfather of Samuel S. O’Brien, Grace L. O’Brien, & Paige S. O’Brien, all of Warwick. He was predeceased by his eight siblings. He also leaves his loving dog “Rosie.”
Private funeral services were held in the chapel of J.H. WILLIAMS & CO. FUNERAL HOME. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the RISPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915 will be appreciated.
