Albert Baker Obituary

Baker, Jr.  Albert  H. 90, of County Street in Seekonk, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 .  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Gertrude W. (Boardman) Baker and husband of Elaine H. (Smith) Baker of Seekonk and Melbourne Village, Florida.  Elaine and Al were married for 62 years.

Mr. Baker was an Army Air Force Veteran of WW II, and served as a Ball Turret Gunner in B-24's flying from England to bomb Berlin.  After the war, he worked at the Seekonk Post Office beginning as a part-time clerk and ending as Asst. Postmaster. After retiring in 1980, Al did odd jobs for a while before taking an interest in painting with oils. His paintings are fairly well known in the area, as he was awarded many ribbons in a number of local art shows.  Dozens of his paintings were purchased over 20-years at the Scituate Art Festival.  He also served as a South Seekonk Farm League baseball manager, and as a representative during the period of Seekonk's Representative Town Meetings.  A passionate golfer, Al loved sports in general and was a big fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.

He is survived in addition to his wife by his children, Janneane (Bob) Randall; Jonathan (Brenda) Baker; Jill Baker; Jeremy (Maggie) Baker; and Maria (Randy Hagood) Sparsis.  He also has six grandchildren, Allison (Chris) Randall, Leila (Kris) Hoy, Andrew Randall, Meredith Laurence, Benjamin Franklin Baker and Rosie Grace Baker and two step-grandchildren, Russell and Benjamin Doiron.  He dearly loved his dog Corky.

He was the last of 12 children who have all passed now.  They were Ruth Tracy, Allison Baker, Carleton Baker, Gertrude Hughes, Freeman Baker, George Baker, Sarah Gray, Ellen Colwell, Elizabeth Baker, Rhoda Lewis and Hope Kiefer.

A private memorial service, with Military Honors, is being planned.  In lieu of flowers to family members, please give a gift to your local Animal Shelter in his memory. The family would greatly appreciate it.
