Alice Norris Neel Hagan, 76, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday September 4th 2019, surrounded by family. A resident of Durham, NC and Tiverton, RI, Alice was a copious reader, ambitious chef and avid gardener. She had a rich intellect and broad interests, from colonial architecture to classic cars to heirloom dahlias. An art lover and film enthusiast, she was known for her generous correspondence and prodigious article clipping.
Alice lived in Little Compton, RI for many years where she enjoyed summers at Warren’s Point. She was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on November 28th, 1942 to Henry Shoch Neel and Bessie Ebbs Norris. She attended The Agnes Irwin School and Rhode Island School of Design where she received a BFA in Textiles in 1965. Alice went on to have a singular career that lasted more than forty years and helped define the landscape of American interior and industrial design.
Alice was a bright light who was deeply admired and respected by her many friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, John; her sister, Cynthia Neel of Valley Forge, PA; her step-brother Robert Pollock of Monument, CO; her son Brooks and daughter-in-law Julie of Little Compton, RI; her grandsons Asa and William— and her beloved poodle, Jaime.
