Harris, Asa R., Jr, passed away on March 25, 2015 at the home he shared in Cranston with his companion of 25 years Dolores Walker. He was born in Providence, son of the late Asa R. and Emma (Smith) Harris.
Asa was a Vietnam War Veteran and served 20 years in the Army stationed twice in Vietnam and several times in Germany. He retired as Sargent 1'st Class. He served as Tank Commander and Tank Instructor.
After retirement he worked part time for Damiano Brothers Welding Company, Handy and Harman and the University Club. He also worked 15 years at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Quoset.
He is survived by his estranged wife Theresa (Lopes) Harris of Pawtucket, his son Brian Carmo and wife Josee Beauregard of West Warwick, his daughters Kim Harris of Pawtucket and Traci Harris of East Providence, his sister Marjorie (Harris) Rush of New Hampshire and Florida and he was brother of the late David Harris and Virginia (Harris) Edmunds.
He was Grandpa to his 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. He was stepdad to his companion's 4 children and Papa to her 6 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Monday, March 30'th at 9:00 AM, in the J.H. Williams & Co Funeral Home, 210 Taunton Ave., East Providence. Calling hours are Sunday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be with Military Honors in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to VNA of RI, 475 Kilvert St., Suite 400, Warwick, RI 02886 or to Disabled American Veterans.
