Barbara Jones Obituary

Barbara Ann Jones, 89, of Portsmouth, Va., passed away at Magnolia Manor Assisted Living in Smithfield, VA with family by her side on September 3, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore John Jones; her daughter, Janet; her son, Scott; her sister, Carolyn Levine; and her brothers, Myles Dewey, Gary Dewey, and Walter Dewey. She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Tedd and Amy Jones; her daughter and son in-law, Kandi and Todd Porter; her grandchildren, Joshua Jones and his wife, Michele Jones, Ariel Jones-DeMaio and her husband Frank DeMaio, Kylie Ball and her husband Jordan Ball, Kassidy Payne and her husband Daniel Payne; and her great grandchildren Grace Jones, Phoebe Jones, Faith Jones, and Charlie DeMaio; her sister Patricia Almeida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was the oldest of six children and was born in Swansea, MA. She met Ted when she was 18 where she worked as a waitress at a clam shack and shortly after they were married they moved to Virginia. Later they opened their still thriving business, Ted Jones Appliance, which is now operated by Joshua and Tedd Jones. Barbara cherished and loved her husband Ted, her family, and her many friends both in Virginia and in New England. If you knew Barbara, you knew she loved having a good time. Often this included entertaining friends with a table of home cooked food, telling jokes until she cried laughing, or just doing something fun like bowling with the grandchildren. Barbara also loved to travel as she and Ted traveled throughout the U.S. and across the globe. She and Ted frequented Las Vegas and Dover Downs where she exuberantly played the slot machines. Any holiday was a reason for decorating and celebrating with loved ones. Barbara was determined and committed to whatever she had in mind. She loved her family and friends and was proud of their accomplishments. She loved spoiling her grandchildren at every opportunity. She had a heart that loved justice and hated seeing wrongdoing. She will be missed by many.

A burial and graveside service will be held at Thomas Cemetery on Rt. 6, Swansea, MA on Friday, September 12th. Additionally, a celebration of life will be held at a later date for her friends and will be forthcoming. The family would like to thank all of their family, friends and neighbors for their never-ending love and support.

Arrangements are in the care of the Home of J.H. WILLIAMS & CO.
