Honoring the Life of Dr. Craig Joseph Yennie

Dr. Craig Joseph Yennie, born March 24th, 1983 in Hartford, CT passed away unexpectedly at age 33 on November 8th, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. He leaves behind his devoted mother Hyacinth Yennie; three loving sisters Melissa Yennie, Dr. Charlecinth “Charlie” Yennie Roberts, and Cristin Nicole of California; four adoring nephews, JP and Aiden Roberts, Alijah Kahlil and Tarek Naeem Van Laeken; five uncles and eight aunts; over 100 cousins; and many close friends.

As a long time Hartford resident, he attended M.D. Fox Elementary School and then Classical Magnet at Quirk Middle School. During that time he helped co-found the South End Knight Riders Youth Center, now known as Compass Youth Collaborative. After graduating from Sports Science Academy in 2001, he attended Trinity College and earned his Bachelors degree in Chemistry. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Brown University where he published several studies and taught hundreds of students.

Intelligent, humble, patient, kind, and generous, Craig made an impact through his unassuming nature, dedication to excellence, and love of family. Craig will be remembered not only for his academic achievements but also for his devotion to people. All who knew Craig will remember his contagious “belly” laugh, his beautiful smile, and his calming and pleasant spirit. Tutoring students, playing pool, watching sports, helping out at family events, and traveling with family brought him much joy.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Craig’s life at Immanuel Congregational Church, 10 Woodland St Hartford, CT 06105 on December 3rd 2016 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may contribute to the Dr. Craig J. Yennie Scholarship/Memorial Fund. Donations can be made through The Dr. Craig J.
