Edward Luciano Obituary

Edward F. Luciano “Ed” died unexpectedly in Miriam Hospital on Monday, 29 June 2020. Ed was born in Providence, the son of the late Eugene F. and Helen (McGetrick) Luciano. Ed was educated in the Warwick, Rhode Island Public Schools and was a 1970 graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. Ed was a resident of Rumford, Rhode Island and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was a former resident of Old Lyme, Connecticut and upstate New York.

Ed leaves his partner of forty years John F. “Jeff” FitzGerald of Rumford, Rhode Island and Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a sister, Marybeth Hanley and a brother Gerald Luciano both of Warwick, Rhode Island.

Ed was a member of Central Congregational Church in Providence where he served on the social committee and as chairperson of the membership committee for many years. Ed loved sterling silver and enjoyed the time he spent at Central polishing the church’s communion silver. Ed also enjoyed talking to potential new members, many of whom decided to join the church.

Ed retired from the Putnam, Connecticut Public Schools where he taught Business Education and served as Chairperson of the Business Ed Dept. Prior to Ed’s position in Putnam, he was a teacher and Chairperson of the Business and Technology Department for the Waterford, Connecticut Board of Education. Ed was also an adjunct professor of Business Administration at Johnson and Wales University and the University of Rhode Island. Ed began his long tenure in education with the Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education in upstate New York. Ed enjoyed his thirty-seven year career teaching Business Education. Many of Ed’s former students have acknowledged how meaningful Ed had been as their teacher and how helpful to many in the selection of a career in business.

Ed loved to cook and prepare dinners for his friends in his home in whichever location he lived. One always looked forward to his wonderful evenings at home. During school breaks, Ed enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, transatlantic cruises and several cruises to Bermuda. He also enjoyed spending winter break in his Fort Lauderdale condominium. Ed & Jeff lived life to the fullest, making many new friends throughout their life travels.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, 19 June at 12:30 o’clock in the sanctuary of Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell Street, Providence, Rhode Island.

Arrangements are in care of the Home of J.H. Williams & Company, 210 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island.
