Larocque, Gerald George, 87, of Seekonk, MA, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital after a difficult battle with end-stage heart and lung condition.
Jerry graduated from East Providence High School In 1945 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He was in boot camp when World War II ended. Jerry went to work at Washburn Wire Steel Company where he worked for the bulk of his career. He held a host of roles: working in “the pit”, pouring heats, crane operator, metallurgist, and in the early 1960s, moved into sales where he remained until the plant declared bankruptcy, circa 1981. Some of his fondest memories and funniest stories hailed from when he was working in the pit, where he forged many life-long friendships.
In his retirement, Jerry enjoyed his dogs, working on his boat model, cooking and staying up-to-the-minute with current affairs, particularly politics and economics.
He was the brother of the late Dr. Robert Larocque of Greenfield, MA. Jerry leaves his wife of 63 years, Carolyn (Bishop) Larocque of Seekonk, his daughter, Diane Larocque, of Hopkinton, MA and his nephew, Jerry Larocque of Bedford, MA.
A graveside service will be held at Seekonk Cemetery, Newman Avenue, Seekonk, MA at 10:30am on Monday, October 27, 2014. In lieu of flowers, a memorial tribute has been set up for donations to honor his life and his love for animals: www.MSPCA.org, “In Memory of Jerry Larocque” tribute page.
