James I. Howell, 83, of Riverside, died peacefully on April 9, 2018 at Hattie Ide Chaffee Home. He was the loving husband of Ina C. (Thoresen) Howell. Born in Waycross, GA, he was a son of the late Ivey Howell & Effie M. (Strickland) Howell.
Mr. Howell served honorably as a career Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy for many years until his retirement. He proudly served during the Vietnam War. He was a charter member of Grace Community Chapel of Seekonk and active member of Gideons International. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge F. & A.M. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and Christian brother.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his loving son, Kenneth Howell and daughter-in-law Allison Howell of Wasilla, Alaska. Cherished grandfather of_Rees, John, Clare, Ian, Luke, Joseph, and Adah Howell.
His Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 12:00 pm in Grace Community Chapel, 110 County Street, Seekonk. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Relatives & friends are invited & may call from 11:00-12:00 at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to Hattie Ide Chaffee, 200 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, RI 02915 or to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904 will be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.H. WILLIAMS & CO. FUNERAL HOME, 210 Taunton Avenue, Route 44, East Providence.
