Kuni Kreutel Johnson, 83, of Rumford, died peacefully on January 16, 2022. Born April 7, 1938 in Providence, RI, daughter of the late William E. & Frances (Tumler) Kreutel of Seekonk, MA, married in ’61 to Robert C. Johnson, Kuni leaves a brother Willie E. Kreutel of Palm Coast, FL, a son, Christopher R. Johnson of Herndon, VA, a daughter, Kristine K. Johnson of Bradenton, FL, granddaughters Kiana Rose & Tara Aeryn Johnson of Oakton, VA.
Graduate of E.P. High ’55, she received a BS in journalism from Suffolk University in Boston ’59 where she became the first woman editor of the University newspaper. Kuni was first employed at Simon, Steadman, & Ryan Law Offices and Niles, Inc. Real Estate Managers in Boston.
Residing briefly in Rumford, she moved to Seekonk for the next 33 years, becoming a founding member of the League of Women Voters in Seekonk & published the League’s newspaper for 10 years.
She was the owner of Johnson Motors in E. Providence, with her husband, Bob, where she was Vice President from ’76.
Kuni became a member of Newman Congregational Church in ’51 serving as teacher, member of the Church Committee and became Newman’s first woman Trustee.
She, with friends, operated the Corner Closet Church Thrift Shop for a decade and, commencing in ’68, served on the Coffee Hour Crew.
Residing in Rumford since ’94, Kuni wintered with Bob in Mulberry, FL.
Kuni was the Goddaughter of the late Mae Wilson Tumler of Hooksett, NH and cousin to Patricia Ann Tumler Stetson of Westport, MA and Kathryn Elaine Tumler Miltimore of Narragansett, RI.
Her funeral and burial in Rumford Cemetery will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to The Boys & Girls Club of Fall River Brenda Stetson Memorial Camping Fund, 803 Bedford Street, Fall River, MA 02723 will be appreciated.
