Lorraine Smith Obituary

Lorraine Smith, 67, of Old Orchard Beach, lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and passed away in the early morning hours of May 8th, surrounded by family, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.  She is dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lorraine was born to Mary and Leo Tremblay in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on September 23rd, 1957.  She attended local Pawtucket schools and went on to be a skilled phlebotomist, first at Miriam Hospital in Providence and later at Coastal Medical Group in East Providence.  She met her love, Donald, in 1974 and they were married in June of 1976.  They settled in West Warwick, RI where they lived for many years and where they made many friends.  Upon their retirement, they moved to Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Lorraine loved riding her bike through Ocean Park and through the woods on the Eastern Trail.  She enjoyed sitting on the bench by the beach in Ocean Park and being with family and friends.  She had a kind and gentle spirit and she was immediately liked by everyone she came in contact with.  Lorraine had a knack for making you feel happy and comfortable when you were with her.  We miss her so much.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, Donald, who was her guardian angel.

She is survived by Donald, her husband of nearly 49 years.  She is also survived by her brothers, Paul and Robert Tremblay, and her sister Denise Gehrke.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and one of the greatest loves of her life, Jerilynn  DiCenzo, who was the daughter she never had.

Lorraine's family would like to thank the doctors and staff on R4 and SCU2 at Maine Medical Center who worked so hard trying to keep her with us.  Their extraordinary compassion helped us all through a very difficult time.

Friends may call Thursday, May 22, 2025 from the hours of 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. in the Home of J.H. Williams & Co., 210 Taunton Ave, East Providence, RI. A committal service will be held Friday May 23rd at 11:00am at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine.
