Marion Coop Obituary

Marion Deborah Coop (née Miner) passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, with family at her side. Born on October 16, 1929, in Providence, Rhode Island to Doris and Milton Miner, Marion built a beautiful life defined by love for her family and community. Having lived for nearly a century, she possessed a resilience, quiet independence, and peaceful perspective that only a life so fully lived can bring.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Perry Coop. Their marriage of 57 years was defined by an enduring dedication to one another and the family they built together before his passing in 2007. Marion was a graduate of East Providence High School and Bryant College.

During her early adult years, she dedicated herself to her home and family, raising her three daughters with care and devotion. For 68 years, Marion was a fixture of her neighborhood, living in the distinctive red house on Hope Street. Once her children were grown, she worked for many years as a secretary at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church (now the Church of the Epiphany).

Marion lived life with a steady grace and a keen eye for quality. She was an avid traveler who especially enjoyed the elegance of a cruise, yet she found equal joy in the simple traditions of many summers spent at her house on Cape Cod. Closer to home, she delighted in occasional outings to Ross-Simons to browse for jewelry and treasured afternoons spent dining at the Wharf Tavern. She was known for her love of comfort and could often be found happily bundled in a favorite fleece, which she owned in nearly every color. A devoted animal lover, she shared her home over the years with cherished companions, most often a dachshund or beloved cat. Above all, she loved when people came to visit; she was always ready to sit and catch up on the lives and news of those she loved.

She is survived by her three daughters: Deborah Seger (Michael), Cynthia Garvey (David), and Nancy Kelly (William). Her legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren: Amy Douglass, Christopher Seger, Katelain Tavares (Jay), Bradford Garvey (Mary Elizabeth), Matthew Seger, Shannon Richer (Christopher), and Catherine Simpson (Francis). She was also the proud great-grandmother of fourteen.

A private family service will be held.
