Matilda Abreu Obituary

ABREU, Matilda “Tillie” (Medeiros), 96, of New Bedford, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 2, 2016. She was the wife of the late Frank Abreu. Born in Acushnet, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francisco C. Medeiros & Ermelina C. (Pacheco) Medeiros. 

Mrs. Abreu worked as a Stitcher with O.V. Dress Company for many years until her retirement. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, member of Our Ladies of the Rosary, and Club Fe Patria. Mrs. Abreu was a caring compassionate woman to everyone she knew. She was known as Grandma and Aunt Tillie to many beyond her immediate family. 

She leaves her two loving daughters, Barbara A. d’Andrade of Vienna, VA and Donna F. Teixeira and her husband Louis of Acushnet. Beloved grandmother of Walter C. d’Andrade, Jr. of Washington, D.C., Michelle L. d’Andrade of Reston, VA, Kevin S. d’Andrade of Leesburg, VA, Jessica F. Teixeira of New Bedford, Jonathan L. Teixeira of New Bedford, Andrew L. Teixeira of Acushnet, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Frank Medeiros and Clement Medeiros. 

Her funeral will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 8:45 am from AUBERTINE-LOPES FUNERAL HOME, 129 Allen St. New Bedford with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives & friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St, Watertown. MA 02472 and Catholic Charities of Fall River, PO Box 1470, Fall River, MA 02722 will be appreciated.  Arrangements have been entrusted to J.H. WILLIAMS & CO. FUNERAL HOME, 210 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, RI.
