BURRILL, RICHARD E. 73, of Ormond Beach, Florida died Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Halifax Health-Hospice Port Orange Center, Port Orange, Florida. He was the husband of Sharon L. (Walters-Sampson) Burrill. Born in Providence, a son of the late Walter H. and Hazel I. (Aldrich) Burrill. He had previously lived in East Providence before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida in 2004. He was a Vietnam Conflict Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Burrill was a computer operator for the Providence Journal for 32 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post #10 Riverside, RI. He was an Amateur HAM Radio Operator WA1QCA 146.760. Because of Richard and his repeater 146.760, response teams were accurately placed at Ground Zero during 9/11, all the while, ensuring communication remained between Ground Zero and the rest of the East coast. He was a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan. He loved going to the beach and fishing. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter Carolyn Murphy and her husband Michael of Palmyra, NJ, a stepson Jamie and Megan Sampson of Hatfield, PA, a stepdaughter Kerri Leveillee and her husband Maurice Jr. of Valrico, FL, a brother Charles Burrill of Palmyra, ME, a sister Janice Brillon and her husband Harvey of Elizabethton, TN. 10 grandchildren, uncle of numerous nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Patricia E. Darden. Mr. Burrill will be dearly missed by his best canine friend "Coco." Calling hours will be held Monday 4-7pm in the J.H. WILLIAMS & CO.
