Robert W. Bates

Robert W. Bates, 93, of East Providence, died peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Hattie Ide Chaffee Home. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John Bates and Leeota M. (Pitzer) Bates.

Mr. Bates was employed as a steel worker with Carpenter Steel for many years until his retirement. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was an avid bowler and member of the Newman YMCA.

He leaves his loving children: Barbara A. Casala of Barrington, Betty A. Nelson of San Jose, CA, and Laurie J. Bruce of Seekonk, MA. He was the father of the late Donald R. Bates. Cherished grandfather of four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Arthur Bates.

Private services were held in the Home of J.H. WILLIAMS & CO., 210 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, RI. Burial with Military Honors in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, D.C. 20090 will be appreciated.
