Robert Corbitt Obituary

Corbitt, Robert M. 86, passed away peacefully on January 8 surrounded by family after a brief illness. He had most recently lived at East Bay Manor in East Providence and before that in Seekonk in the house he built more than 50 years ago. He was the beloved husband of the late Birdella L. Corbitt (Wightman) for 54 years and his first wife, Frances H. Corbitt (Hall) who predeceased him in 1958. Bob is survived by his daughter Susan McTaggart (husband Paul), his grandchildren, Meghan Lilley (husband Jon), Erin McTaggart, Ryan McTaggart (partner Kerry Cook), and great grandson Caleb McTaggart. He is also survived by sisters and brothers, Ruth Staugaard (husband Burt), Dave Corbitt (wife Phyllis), Dot Barker (husband Dave), and sister-in-law Joyce Corbitt. as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Corbitt . Bob was born on October 2, 1928 in Lower Millstream, New Brunswick, Canada, oldest son of the late Effie (Bell) and Edward Corbitt. They moved to the US when he was one month old. Bob graduated from Central High School in Providence and he joined the US Army Air Corps and later the US Air Force and served in Germany. When he returned from serving he worked as a carpenter for many years, building homes. In later years he worked at Barrington College, Lincoln School and Barrington Baptist Church in building maintenance. Bob enjoyed wood carving and gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Bob and his wife, Birdella were long standing members of the Barrington Baptist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 16th at the Barrington Baptist Church, 25 Old County Road, Barrington.
