Walter R. Barr, Jr., 74, lifelong resident of Rumford, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 24, 2020. He was the loving husband of Cynthia D. (Cicerelli) Barr. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Walter R. Barr, Sr. & Lillian G. (Koehler) Barr.
Walter was employed at Newman Crosby Steel and Ocean State Steel as a steel worker with Teamsters Local 251. He also worked as a school bus driver for the last 25 years with Ocean State Transit for East Providence public schools. He proudly served in the US Navy as a Seabee from 1965-1967. He was attached to MCB-62 as a member of Alpha company. During his time in service his unit deployed to Hue Phu Bai, Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 311, Seekonk. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, restoring cars, and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his five children: Walter R. Barr, III of Rumford, Joseph R. Barr of Rumford, Becky Williams & her husband Joshua of Woodbine, Ga, Kristopher J. Barr of Rumford, & Randy Jo Barr of Rumford. Cherished grandfather of Cameron, Kristopher Jr., Alexus, Chelsea, Lilly, John, Ethan, & great-grandfather of Kayden, Corbin, & Ariah. He was the brother of the late Raymond E. Barr.
Due to the current public health crisis, is funeral and burial with Military Honors in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to The Wounded Warrior Project will be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.H. WILLIAMS & CO. FUNERAL HOME.
